J Visa Holder Marrying an American Citizen
I have just started working as an Au Pair and if the family don't decide to renew my visa next year then I will have to return to England for 2 years before re-entering. Although this isn't until October 2014 (that is when my visa expires) myself and my boyfriend whom I've been dating for over a year do not want that to happen and want to get married. We have lived together for 6 months in total, Me visiting at christmas last year till spring and then him visiting England this summer (if this makes any difference). We are looking into getting married next year but I want to know what the steps are that we need to take in order for me to stay here and is there a deadline for us to do so. If anyone who has gone through this process could help me in any way or if any one else has any other information this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

You indicate that you are subject to the two year HRR, so you either need to get that waived or fulfill that requirement. Marriage doesn't affect the HRR, and you cannot adjust your status based upon marriage until it's either waived or completed.
