Can a Minor Get Compensated for Being Required to Work Unlawful Hours
My question involves workers compensation law for the state of: Ohio
Hello, from my understanding minors aren't aloud to work more then 5hours a shift without a 30minute break and not aloud to work past 11 on a school night.(If wrong corrections are welcome)
I have been working shifts anywhere from 5-11 hours as a minor and was wondering what actions to take to report this. Or if there is settlement that should be made etc.
I have records of all time slips(been there for almost 18months) and there are over 50(still sorting others) that are violating the minor labor laws.
Any comments and advice is appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Disagreeable
Re: Violation of Minor Labor Laws, Possible Settlement
All it can result in is the employer being fined by the state. You did not win the lottery.

Thank you for your response, therefore would you recommend taking the time and money it would take to pursue it or what would you do in this circumstance?

I would recommend that you tell us how old you are, because the rules for those under 16 and the rules for those 16 and 17 are not the same.

I am currently 17, but have been there since March of 2012 so was 16 as well.

Then I would recommend that you drop the subject, since the limitations you mention apply only to those UNDER 16

Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4109.07 Part C
"(C) No employer shall employ a minor more than five consecutive hours without allowing the minor a rest period of at least thirty minutes. The rest period need not be included in the computation of the number of hours worked by the minor."
Not trying to argue but the above says MINOR not under 16.

Even in the one you listed it states ""Break Requirement"All minors are required to have a 30 minute uninterrupted break when working more than 5 consecutive hours which must be documented as stated above."
So I'm not sure if the law is contradicting itself or something separate.

Then call the OH DOL and report it. They'll tell you what you're entitled to.
