Accused of petty larceny by high school
I am 17 years of age in the state of new york, and being charged with petit larceny. Yesterday me and my 2 friends were called to the principals office during school, where we were confronted.
This would be my first offense
It started when my 2 friends (which were president and vice president of the school) had to take change to a coinstar machine, and then were asked to donate the money( which I did not know at the time). I on this day, was accidently in the same room as them, and asked to help. We went to the store to a coinstar machine and got the money out. The vice president had to leave and so it was just me and the president of the school there. The sum was around mayb $130 total. My friend told me he was going to donate the money. And when we left, he gave me a $20 bill. He never told me why he gave me it or anything. And I didn't ask why, I then later found out, that he never did donate the money. When he told me that there were going to catch him, he demanded that I pay him back the $20. This was the point i found out that he had given me stolen money. I had assumed that he had given me the money from his pocket as a gift/or the money from the coinstar was his to have. So basically he had given me the money as a bribe to keep my mouth shut that he was taking it. Use three were all brought down to the office were the prinicpal. Questioned and asked and found out that the money was not donated. I had received the smallest portion by far, because the other 2 split it between them.
Should i be convicted of petit larceny if I didn't know the money given to me was stolen, i just assumed it was out of his own pocket.
Would the school just want restitution for the money/or want more
My parents don't know about this yet, and i don't want them to, and im hoping they never will, I hope the school will just drop the charges for me atleast and not say anything else
What should I do, please help
