so, is that $1400 a week gross or net?Quote:
I've been working since I was 14, currently raising about $1,400/mo. I have $12k saved up. I'm looking at a nice apartment for $600/mo, with a total utility bill (water, electric, internet) of roughly $150/mo. Averaging food costs around $300/mo and an extra $150 for bus and laundromat fees, it all comes out around $1,200. (I don't need a car at this point, so car insurance is pointless. As far as health insurance goes, unless Osamacare stays around for the next few years I don't plan on having any. Yes I'm aware of the risks.) I'm also enrolled in an online high school so the hours are more flexible with my job.
Oh, my mistake. That was monthly? Wow. If that is a gross, then you don't make enough to pay even your very unlikely budget.
water, electric, and internet for $150; What about a phone?
$300/ month for food; You aren't eating very well or much for $10 a day.
What happens if you get ill and miss some work?
Yes, that is monthly.
"According to the United States Department of Agriculture, Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, the average cost for food per month for one person in the United States is approximately two hundred eighty-seven dollars ($287)."

An ooma box is a phone service that is just hooked up to the internet, so other than buying the box service is very cheap or free. (I set one up for a friend.)

And if I can't take a sick day from work then my savings are there for that reason.
You earn enough to pay for your own health insurance. Not much more. You cannot be legally emancipated.
I know and knew it was monthly. I posted what I did to attempt to express the fact $1400 a month is not a lot of money. That is a decent weekly pay. It is not a good monthly income.Quote:
Aphos;749308]Yes, that is monthly.
and you did not address whether that was gross or net.
btw: realize that Florida is one of only a few states that do not have personal income tax. If you move out of Florida, it is quite likely you would have a higher total tax load due to state income taxes of your new resident state.
I pay for what I eat. I know what I spend. I have no idea what they are eating for $287 a month but I can assure you it is a very boring meal plan and likely includes a lot of mac and cheese, ramen noodles, oatmeal, and rice. I pay for a couple people and I spend nearly as much in a week as that monthly cost and I do not eat extravagantly.Quote:

You're absolutely right - even if it's $1400 after taxes and deductions, that's only slightly higher than the poverty level (in terms of benefits, what the government looks at, etc.)
OP, your parents have to be the ones filing the petition, if it even gets that far. What you've got to bear in mind is that emancipation never was, and still is not, a means for an unhappy teen to get out of the home. It's intended to allow minors who, through no fault of their own (parents killed in a plane crash for example) to get the power switched over to their name, and all of that.
When your parents file to emancipate you, they will be the ones who have to explain to the court the plan by which you will support yourself. Work on this with them.
My reference to your disrespect was less that towards your parents and more towards the leader of your country. Even if you dislike the man, the office deserves respect. Shame on you and shame on your parents for not teaching you that.
So your mom rarely cooks. Guess what? I live with two people with sensitive stomachs who never know what/when/if they want to eat. I cook for myself. I do not do frozen foods. Home made lasagna. Spaghetti is easy. Mexican Pizza. Chicken (fresh, not that cardboard box stuff). Chili (sorry, not canned Hormel). Meatballs. I can make a full-size Thanksgiving Turkey. Home made Potato Salad. Greek Salad.
get the big girl/boy pants on and learn to cook.
No landlord in their right mind is going to sign a lease with a 16 year old.
