Gave My Girlfriend $30,000, 2 Weeks Later She Left Me and Won't Pay Me Back
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California
I recently met this girl, which asked me to help her out. We went out a few times. She planned to go to university and needed $30,000 for her tuition fees. I decided to help her out with a loan from my 401k.
2 weeks after she had the money, her personality changed and she emotionally blackmailed me till i decided to leave her. After i asked her if she gives me the money back, she says no and made fun of me. She is convinced i have no way to get it back from her.
I didnt set up a loan agreement, because i trusted her.
Any chance i will ever see it again?

Why on earth would you EVER loan that amount of money to someone you wouldn't also trust with the soul of your firstborn?!
The burden will be on you to prove that it was a loan versus a gift.
The amount is too high for small claims - then again, if you can afford to pull out $30k you can afford a consultation with an attorney.

So, you gave her the money. When people loan money, they usually make the statement that they loaned the money. If you gave it to her, it's hers and that's the end of that. If you loaned it to her, take actions to enforce your loan agreement whatever that may be.
