Identity Theft by Tenant to Get Oil Delivered
My question involves criminal law for the state of: NH
Hi all,
Long time lurker here!
This winter, my tenant called the oil company, activated my account, and changed the billing address so it went directly to him. I figured this all out when cleaning the apartment last week and found a bill for $1200 from the oil company in my name.
I'm not asking how to avoid paying the bill because the oil company and I are still discussing. I'm writing because I would like to report the tenant to the local PD or prosecutor for indentity theft. This part is new to me so I'm hoping to get some advice/insight. How do I get started? Take the bill into the police station? Is this something they will take seriously?
Thank you in advance for any help.

call the police. They may require you to come into the station to file a complaint or they may come to you. No reason to make this a bigger process than what it is.

It's not an emergency, so try finding and calling a non-emergency number for your P.D.

Thank you for your replies. This is good advice. My wife is calling the police non-emergency number today.
