Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
My question involves an injury that occurred in the state of: AL
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN This is not an admission of guilt.
I'm not sure how to start this off.
Dear reader,
My friend who is 15 took his sisters car out to drive and called me and asked if I wanted to hang out. It was 2 AM so I was wary of going anywhere even though we live in an upscale part of town. But I digress, when I walked out side he was driving a car which he told me was his so I assumed he was 16 years of age. When I got in the car he drove away from my house and I asked him where we were going but he said he didn't know. After roughly 45 minutes of driving and chatting he dropped me off at my house and I started to undress and slip into bed. He then called me yelling that he crashed the car and I could hear the alarm in the background of the call. He told me he needed me and I had to come right down the street from my house right now. So when I arrived on foot because I am 15 and do not own a car. He was gone and the car remained with about 3 men from 30-45 years of age around the car. I walked up and told them I came because the alarm of the car had woken me up. They said a teenage boy had it a mailbox and slid of the road into a tree. They were talking among themselves and they said "Well I guess we should say we didn't see anything at all." I then started to walk away and when I was about 500 ft away a police car pulled up next to me and asked what happened. I told him a teenager wrecked his car on the side of the road and there were people around the car. He drove off never asking me anything else. I went home after that and now 20 minutes later I am posting this on a forum. So what I am asking is what is my role in this and can I be convicted of anything. Also what are his chances of getting off AGAIN I did not know he was underage.
Thanks,
Worried Friend
Re: Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
What are you worried about? Are you asking whether you could you find yourself in trouble if your "friend" says you were the one who took the car and crashed it?
Re: Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
I am worried about if I am in the wrong with riding in the car before the accident and if they find my name will I be charged wit anything. And he would not say that people saw the fact he was the only one there after the crash.
Re: Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
From what you have told us, the only minor confirmed to be present after the crash was you.
If you want to know what your friend's sister and your friend told the police when they investigated the crash, you should start by asking them what they said.
Re: Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
I'm not completely sure was was caught seeing as how he wont answer his phone. Also I did not lie to the police, correct? He drove away before I could say anything else.
Re: Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
I wasn't there, so I don't know if you lied to the police.
If you believe the police found a crashed car on the side of the road but wouldn't follow up by contacting its owner to inquire about how that might have happened, I doubt this discussion is going to be productive.
Re: Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
I suppose so but even if they did what could I face.
Re: Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
If the police decide you are the car thief, the potential charge would be more serious than if the police decide you were simply along for the ride and perhaps helped cover up for your friend. The rest depends on the facts.
Re: Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
why would they think i stole a car
Re: Minor Went on a Joyride in His Sister's Car and Crashed It
Your friend could easily lie.
Time to know your friends better, and stop sneaking out.
