Is It Considered Stalking if You Don't Know the Person is Following You
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois

As of late, I've had a few people stalk me around town. I was recently notified when some individuals showed up at my place of business, for which I had told no one and not made public that I was working at that place. The individuals then attempted to discuss my out-of-work behavior and personality in my daily life. I do not know how these individuals collected this information. However, I consider since I did not make the information public, the individuals were stalking me. That these individuals discussed my personal life was later brought up to me at work. I was emotionally distressed about the whole thing.

Would this kind of behavior from individuals be considered stalking?

Having somebody show up at your workplace to talk to you is not stalking. Speculation about how they learned where you work is not proof that anybody followed you.

If you don't want to talk to somebody who shows up at your workplace, I suggest trying this: "I can't talk to you now. I'm working."

Hmm. I'll be bringing this issue to an attorney. Thanks for the discussion. I reason it will get complicated, thus I will seek confidentiality on it.

hmmm...take cash with you if you wish to bring the issue to an attorney. His time is money and he doesn't have any to waste.

After you pay the attorney, he/she will tell you that following you to your workplace and attempting to have a discussion with you is not stalking, that in fact it's not illegal at all.
