Paying for Water Service After the Service Has Been Disconnected
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California-Merced County
On June 4th 2010 I moved out of my house which was supposed to be foreclosed on June 10th, I informed the water company I was moving out, I paid for June and July since the water was not cut off but was somehow still being used. On July 15th the water company finally shutoff the water, but informed me I would still have to pay for sewer and water use since I was the home owner of record. The bank didn't foreclose on the property till Oct 2010 and now three years later the water company sends me a bill 175.00 for the months the water was turned off. I do not agree on paying for service when the service was cut off and not being used. Thank you for any advice you offer on this.

If it was not being used, how did it generate a $175 bill for usage?

That's there policy to charge you even the service is not being used.
