Are Survelliance Cameras Allowed in Bathroom Stalls in Michigan
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
I'm currently working at a gentleman's club and just recently my job installed 3 cameras in the bathroom stalls. Not point towards the sink but like in the actual stall pointing towards the toilet. Is this legal to do? Through the grapevine I heard they installed them because an entertainer almost overdosed in a bathroom upstairs. The bathroom downstairs where I have to use the facilities is used by the general public as well as employees.

Generally surveillance cameras are NOT allowed in places where there is an expectation of privacy.
However, a quick search will bring up cases specific to Michigan where certain businesses have had cameras installed in bathrooms as long as they weren't pointed at the urinals or the stalls.
Here's one such case: http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/...6#.UhjOI6M3uSo

They are pointed directly at the toilet, they even have 2 camera for the handicapped bathroom to make sure they cover every inch of the stall. Is that legal? I know one near the sink is but is it legal for them to watch you use the toilet?

I would think they might have legal problems with what you've described.

You need to report the presence of cameras to local police and code enforcement.

So I would go to the police station in the city I work in? Because if that's the case I would be going to Detroit and they won't do anything. I've been there before to report a stolen car and the lady working the desk inside was feeding the birds and did nothing to really help me.

I read somewhere online that CCV cameras (ones that don't record can sometimes be used in dressing rooms) would this be different for restrooms? Also if an employers is going to record you don't they have to have signs saying you are being surveyed? Because my work doesn't have that anywhere and there are cameras everywhere.

Call a news station. Find where the cameras are recording and take pictures of the angles.
Find the owners of American Jewelry and loan and see if the cast members of Hardcore Pawn will help you.

Are there signs warning of the presence and use of video equipment in the restroom? If so, what is written on the sign(s) and where are they located?
