    Brawl Between a 16-Year-Old and 18-Year-olds
The other night my friend was driving down a street in a very nice neighborhood. He was stopped by a group of 4 guys who are 18. One of the guys sprayed water in my friends face and then threw a water bottle at his face. My friend got out of the car and the smallest guy in the group of older kids punched my friend in the face. My friend fought back and was winning the fight. The guy called for his friends to jump in. They all took my friend to the ground then started to violently kick him all over his body. My friend received a broken cheek bone from being kicked there and nerve damage from being kicked in the side. He can no longer feel the right side of his face. My friend does not have his parents support in pressing charges but he wants to do it himself. The older guys all have very wealthy parents so they will all have very good lawyers. If my friend presses charges, will he need a good lawyer to support his side of the case?

First, what state did this occur in?

Second, has he reported this to the police?

Understand that neither your friend nor his parents need necessarily "press charges." While some states may allow for a person to seek charges with a magistrate, most allow for a report to be made to the police which can then be forwarded to a prosecutor for evaluation and charges.

I don't quite understand why your friends parents would not be interested in pursuing criminal charges. What about this incident or your friend are you NOT saying? I suspect there is more to this tale.

Your friend does not press charges. The DA presses charges.

Your friend needs to report the matter to the police and the DA will determine whether or not to take further action.

When did this happen and in what US state?

All your friend needs to do is call the police. Did your friend go to the hospital?

I don't see that your friend is going to successfully press charges absent video evidence. The appropriate response was 1. Not to stop and engage. 2. After engaged leave. Instead, he chose to confront 4 people aggressively who obviously had no qualms about defending themselves.
