Should I Sign a Roommate Release Form when Lease is Over and I Moved Out
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: California
Hello,
Ok so my lease ended mid august, I turned in my 30-day notice mid July and moved out of my apartment when I was required to. My roommate decided he wanted to stay at the same place and now the management has asked me to sign a roommate release form.
I don't think I have any more ties to that apartment so I don't understand why I am required to sign anything.
Please advice what I should do.
Sign or not sign? Any repercussion either way?
Thanks

Please hold the form up to the monitor so I can read what it says.

I cant upload a snap shot of the form. but here is what it says:
"It is agrees that (remaining residents name) and (owner/agent) hereby release (me) from the lease rental-agreement reference above.
the vacating roommates hereby relinquishes all rights and possessions of the residential unit and interest in any deposits held in trust to the remaining residents.
The remaining resident hereby accept all responsibility and liability as set forth in the lease rental agreement, including providing a current proof of renters insurance."""
I dont want to give up my security deposit!
Re: Should I Sign a Roommate Release Form when Lease is Over and I Moved Out
If you want to sign a release and agree to its terms, then you are free to sign. If you don't want to sign a release, even if you agree with its terms, you are free not to sign. Your life, your choice.
