Getting a Reckless Driving Misdemeanor Reduced
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

f you want to read the article here, I am the driver in the car that did not crash:

    http://www.kclu.org/2013/08/22/authorities-try-...

Long story short, it looks like I will be facing reckless driving charges, which is a serious misdemeanor in the state of CA, and I am wondering if I am at all able to get the charges dropped/reduced. If it helps, I believe I have no points on my record.

Please help, I am very worried and have never been in any trouble before in my life, and was very compliant with the police at the time of the accident.

In short, I am wondering what sort of charges I should expect to be facing.

As a side note, if I do get charged with reckless driving, since it is my first offense, is it likely that it will be reduced to just a more minor traffic violation if I get put into one of those "safe driving classes."

Thanks. (I know what I did was very dumb, and I am not looking for people to criticize me)

A reckless driving charge might be the least of your worries. This could potentially extend into purely criminal realm.

I suggest you retain the services of an attorney who handles traffic as well as criminal cases. Depending on the other facts of the case, it looks like you might have bigger problems ahead.

Stop posting on the internet where everybody (including the authorities) can read it and don't talk about it to anybody (especially not the cops or prosecutor) except an attorney.

Anything you say or write can and will be used against you.

So do something smart for a change and hire yourself a good criminal attorney right now.

Oh, yeah, there are a great many charges that can be pursued in an incident like this.

Speak to no one - not friend, not family, not strangers ... consult an attorney TODAY!

Can someone please expand on the other charges I could face?

I was let free to go after the scene, and every article I read just talks about reckless driving charges, not criminal ones.

If I were you, I'd stop posting about this. In fact I normally don't recommend thread deleting, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that you make this thread disappear it you are able to.

The articles are not written by officers and attorneys. But, the article is also light on facts. Only someone familiar with the details can tell you whether or not additional offenses are likely. It may be that everyone got lucky and nothing more will be coming from it. But, what the police do or say is not a guarantee that the DA will see it the same way. The DA may decide that additional charges are appropriate depending on the facts.

I will throw out "Assault with a deadly weapon". To wit, one automobile registered and domiciled in CA.

Given your posting history, it seems that you have a history of criminal activity ... this does not bode well for your future. It's time to get an attorney, grow up, and start minding your manners in polite society or your future will consist of an orange jumpsuit and roommates that might trade you for smokes.
