Why Can't a 17-Year-Old Run Away from Home
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Texas. I'm 17 and I recently left the house with out telling my parents. They had called the cops and the police officer had said that I was considered a run away even though I directly told him that I was not running away. He said he could charge me as a runaway still. And that my boyfriend who had picked me up was harboring a runaway. He told me that I had to tell him where I was and that I had to go back with my parents. Is what the officer said true? And what are my rights in full?

Until you are 18, you have the right to live where your parents say you live.

In Texas, a rarity, police will generally not chase down a 17 year old runaway. That said, they will charge the adult harboring them, if mom or dad complains. You legally have no rights until you are 18. You need to consider whether your boyfriend having a criminal record to haunt him for life is worth it. Before you consider slipping over the border to another state, that can subject him to Federal charges.
