House Misrepresented and Not Ready by Date Specified on Lease
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: North Carolina

My husband and I found a home on the internet to rent. We were moving multiple states away and were not able to view the home in person. The rental site had a number of pictures and the home appeared to be what we needed. As a side note, this is a rental company that represents home owners and does the paperwork/advertisement, etc. This is a military area and this is a common practice.
Fast forward to our move in date... We arrive at the house and it is not in move-in shape. The house condition is filthy (food spots on kitchen counters, toothpaste on bathrooms, dirty toilets, dusty floors, drawers with hair and junk in them), exposed wires, broken refrigerator, landscaping overgrown. The landlord explains that because the water was turned off by the previous tenants that the rental agency was unable to clean, and that it will be completed "at some point" during the day. We have to reschedule our movers to bring our things, and get a hotel for the night because as of 5 pm, the cleaning was not complete and we were exhausted.
I am fed up and realize that that alone does not constitute the ability to break a lease. However, what options do we have here? The movers cannot return until next week, so me (4 months pregnant) and my husband are either a) going to have to move in to this house when its ready and deal with what we have packed in the car, or b) stay in a hotel and hope to find another house that is available if we are able to break this lease.
We have signed the paperwork but have not given them any money. They gave us the keys and apparently hoped that we wouldn't notice all of the other things going on. I really appreciate any help. Our dog and our 7-year old are staying with my parents right now, and we need to figure things out soon!

You attempted to move into the house. There were problems. The landlord said that the house would be ready later that day.

Was it ready later that day?

I'm assuming that the cleaning was completed, because they told us that it was going to be done. The refrigerator and wiring was not. We have not driven back out to the house because of its location relative to the hotel where we are staying, and the rental office is only open until 5. We were there at approximately 4, and nothing was done. My husband is going to drive out there first thing in the morning.
