Chances of Criminal Charges for Stealing
My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York

Went to local grocery store where I have been shopping for 30 years Friday. Got a shopping cart. Placed a package of rolls into the cart and put the cart at the head of an aisle while I went to pick out some pork chops. When I returned to the cart my rolls had been thrown on the floor so now I needed a new cart. I informed not one, but two employees that I was going outside to get a new cart and why(the carts are 10 feet from the door) and they said no problem b/c they know me. Its a small town.

I go outside, grab a cart, throw the two items(pork and rolls) into the cart and go back inside. As I'm going back in, a new security kid jumps out at me and accuses me of trying to steal the items. I say are you kidding? He says no I'm calling the cops come with me-then he recognizes me. I am in law enforcement and we had chatted once before. He says ok let me ask a manager if I can let you go. The manager says yeah sure no problem sorry to bother have a nice day.

As I'm finishing shopping he stops me and asks to come to the front desk to fill out a report and provide ID for an incident report saying it will go into dead file. I refused. He got another manager who said it was company policy. I said fine lets call corporate. They did and then they said no problem we don't need your name. They never called the police and never "detained" me.

I paid for all my groceries(using my discount card which has my name and address) and went home.

Do I have anything to worry about? Should I call my PBA lawyer? I have a pristine record.

    thank you.

I don't see where they would have any cause to call the PD as there was no theft.
