Caught Particiating in a Forgery Ring

My question involves criminal law for the state of: California.
My son followed his girlfriend to another town where he happened to meet a woman heading a forgery ring. He is not street smart at all. To him it was "fun".
This woman and the other guys in the "ring" encouraged him to participate and motivated him by saying, "We been doing this for years and we'll school you, youlle
see how easy it is." So, after several weeks and several false paychecks later, he was caught. Hes in a county jail now facing 8years, taking the "rap" for the whole ring. Im so angry and so devastated, plus worried sick about him. As far as I know, this "ring" continues. Is there any kind of hope now that hes pled, per advice of the public defender? They did NOTHING to help him. Im here just suffering in silence. thank you.

He chose to plead guilty to a crime. He will be sentenced for that crime.

If he wants to talk to his lawyer about whether he could get more favorable sentencing by providing evidence and testifying against the other members of the criminal enterprise, I assume he knows how to reach his lawyer. It would likely have been better to try to make such an offer of cooperation before pleading guilty.

You can certainly hire an attorney to represent him, if you are unhappy with the PD's results.

I'm confused. Who do you think was supposed to help him, the gang that set him up or the DA prosecuting him?
