How Can a Cosigner Get Out of Paying a Bond
I was physically assaulted, attempted murder, stolen money & kidnapped by the person whom I bonded out in May 2013 as a co-signer. I have made two payments so far totaling around $2,000 via my debit card. I lack $3,000 left. I reported criminal charges to police & detective is doing an investigation currently. This person didn't act alone, had one more person with them doing the offense. Currently, they are free walking the streets out there.

My question is due to having a criminal police report against this person, doesn't this disqualify me having to pay his bond out? If I made a payment to his bond this month, it sure would look bad to the detective handling this case including the court & judge. How do I handle getting out of this bond cost? FYI, this person has court hearing on July 11th for another county case against him. I'm sure he hasn't done anything to prove his innocence or will show up to court because of lack of ride to court since its very far from his home location & now he doesn't have me to remind him of such. Due to not appearing to court, he will automatically get a warrant out for his arrest due to he is on PR bond.

    Help!

Who did you pay this bond to? If you paid it to the court, you may be able to revoke the bond and get your money back. If you're talking about payments you made to a bail bondsman, that money is GONE.

Changing your interpersonal relationship does not relieve you of any contractual obligation you may have.

You misunderstood my question. I'm not asking about getting a refund on the money I already paid to a bails bondsman. I'm asking about the rest I owe which is about $3k. how do I get out of paying that since this person whom I bailed out did a severe criminal act on me recently? I did a criminal charge report to police which they are currently investigating. If I start paying this bond this month again, it will look bad to the detective, investigators, court & judge making me look like a guilty party. Do you understand my question now?

I'm afraid you can't stop paying the bail bondsman. You had a contract with the bondsman. The basic terms were that if the bondsman got the person released, you would make the payments. The bondsman fulfilled his end of the bargain, you must now fulfill yours. The fact you have issues with the person who was bonded out changes nothing with your agreement with the bondsman.

You can ask the bondsman to petition the court to revoke the bond. The court can then decide whether the bond will be revoked. Keep in mind revocation will not relieve you of your obligations to still pay the bondsman.

I agree with Jeff. The fee for the bail bondsman is gone the moment he gets the person out of jail. The fact that it's financed doesn't change anything.

Why, why, why did you pay this persons bail?

Respectufully speaking; you need to get away from this person, but you probably already are aware of that.
Yes, it absolutely does "look bad" as you say, because it makes you look bad by association, right?
I was once asked to pay a bail...that person has ben in and out of jail for the last 30 years. I say this as you may very well be looking at the same scenario, so don't feel bad because if you have not "saved" him this time-there will be another. Why go through all that, right?
Better to move on and don't look back, I sincerely wish you well.
    Good luck!

What I'm saying is if I go ahead and pay this bond, then the police, court & judge won't take me serious about the criminal charges I have against this person. The attack was assault with attempted murder, stolen money, kidnap etc.

Because he was a good liar & it was before he did the assault.

I have stayed away from him after I got home from the attack. That's not the problem at all.
