When Will Your License Get Suspended over an Out-of-State DUI Conviction
My question involves a driver's license issued by the State of: NY
Here's the background and current situation. DUI in CA in 09. Conviction in '10. CA has not notified NY yet but i'm about to pay my last installment on my fines. A few questions....when does CA notify?....after conviction or when fines are paid. Secondly, I have to renew my NY license soon (i know...lucky me) will the DUI show up if they run the National Driver Registry? Thanks in advance!!!!
Re: Complex Out of State DUI
Renewal time is frequently when these sort of things crop up. I'd make sure I was clear with CA and have the proof in writing that you are.
Re: Complex Out of State DUI
The point is NY does not know about the CA conviction. If NY runs me through the National Driver Registry at renewal time, will they find out?
Re: Complex Out of State DUI
They will probably find out about it. Most states run your name through the NDR 90 days prior to the expiration of your license, to give you time to address any out of state issues before your license expires. You should try to address this as soon as possible. The NY DMV operates as a relatively slow pace. They only answer the phone during certain hours and it can take months to get clearance.
