Slapped in Face by Supervisor at Work - Don't Know What to Do Next

Thanks to all for your input and useful advice. The aggregate opinion seems to be that this will take up a lot of my time and effort with questionable outcome in the legal system.

Mr. Knowitall and others - my reasons (wise or not) for delaying reporting to the police are complicated and that I cannot detail here. This individual during this investigation never claimed that I struck first and actually never denied any of my story or corroborating evidence from witnesses. It sounds like the consensus is I should have reported it sooner, but sadly there's nothing I can do to change that.

I am in an extremely well paid profession and this individual has been working for a great many years. I am very new to the field and I already have enough financial padding to survive for 1 year without pay, so I'd be surprised if he/she did not.

I am not interested in money from this; I am interested in seeing this not happen to someone else in the future. If the organization in their wisdom (or stupidity) sees this individual fit for return to duty, I'll just have to learn to make peace with that.
