What Does it Take to Get Emancipated at Age 16 or 17
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Florida

My mom has custody of me but moved out to live with my grandma to take care of her. Neither of my parents have a job but my mom and grandma pay the bills over here. I have a job of my own and pay for all of my own stuff like gas, if I want clothes/food, my phone bill. I also pay rent here and am sometimes forced to contribute toward other bills. My dad verbally abuses me and tells me to get out of his house but I have no where to go as I can't go to my grandmas and I can't get my own place because I can not sign a lease! I also have no other family I can go to. I have found places I can afford but I can't move in without my mothers consent which she refuses to give me. I turn 17 in 2 months. I have contacted a lawyer to get legal advice about becoming emancipated but he was not in so I am waiting for a call back when he is back. Do you think I have any chance at becoming emancipated? Whats the next step to take?

It appears your next step is to work on getting along with dad until you are 18.

You can't file yourself in Florida - it MUST be filed by your parents.

If your parents will not agree to sign the emancipation petition, then you have NO chance of being emancipated. Period. Regardless of all the but-what-ifs you can come up with.

Even if your mother would consent, unless you are capable of supporting yourself (which does not mean living with someone else who pays some or all of your bills) you STILL have no chance of being emancipated.

Emancipation is not and never was intended to be a means to allow a minor to move out. It was and is intended to be a means to allow legal protections to those minors who, for reasons outside their own control, found themselves living on their own.
