Stealing From the Place Where You Work
I live in North Carolina. I am 18 years old, a dependent, still in high school, already accepted into a university, and fully understand that what I did was wrong, and the guilt and anxiety has been making me physically ill. This happened yesterday.

I was employed at a retail store, and shoplifted a total two times, though they suspected me for ones that I really didn't do. Either way, it was an idiotic decision on my part. I was an idiot. But now it's happened, and I have no idea what to do.
The second, and most certainly the LAST time I did it, Loss Prevention caught me when I took two shirts from the men's department on camera for my cousin who is living with us right now, and needed clothing that we just didn't have money for. It was a stupid split second decision. I didn't go into the store thinking "Hey, I'm going to take this". The first time I did it was quite a while ago. I took one shirt, and two pairs of shoes. Everything, including the shirts, were totaled together as about $180.

The next time I went into work, Loss Prevention on duty took me to the back, questioned me. Frightened, as this is the first time that I'd ever done anything bad in my life other than copy some homework in class (I've never even had a traffic violation), I confessed to everything I did, and it's in writing. I was terminated from the store as an employee, they took down my information, and I signed the banned form of the store. A police officer was present, but she didn't say anything to me except that I would be receiving a call. She did not give me a citation, so I'm wondering if this was put down as a criminal charge. . . I'm so scared, and I don't know what to do or how to handle this.
A friend of my mother's, a police officer, said that they filed a report on it, but I haven't been charged with anything. . . yet, that is.

What am I to expect, and what are my options if I do get charged? Is there any way I can do in order to be pardoned, or something like that? Please. . .

Re: I Was Employed at This Place, Was Fired, Police Officer Present, No Citation Give
If charged, hire a lawyer. Otherwise you are wasting taxpayer dollars going to college.

options? Like what? If you are charged criminally, you get a lawyer and hope it can be dealt with through some diversion program to keep the stupid acts from following you around forever.
