Changing Name and Removing Father's
My question involves name change laws in the State of: Florida
Ok my daughter's father is a deadbeat and has abandoned her. She doesn't have a relationship with him at all. I want him to give up his parental rights since he has never done anything for her. My boyfriend wants to legally adopt her since he is the only father she knows. How can I get his name removed from her birth certificate? Can we add my boyfriend's name to her birth certificate after her father gives up his rights?
Re: Changing Name and Removing Father's
Once your boyfriend becomes your husband plus 6-12 months, you can consider him adopting your child IF everything else works out.
Before you even consider it, ask yourself this:
If I and my bf come husband split up, am I willing to accept he may end up with residential custody of our child
your bf come husband has to ask himself: if I and my gf come wife split up, am I willing to pay child support for the child I adopted.
If you cannot answer yes to both, don't even consider doing what you are considering doing because it could end up with this situations if you do split up.
as to removing names and adding names on the BC: you can't unless (and only if) your state allows for an corrected BC upon adoption. Otherwise, at best, it will be an amended BC or no change at all.
and, of course, none of that makes any difference until after an adoption anyway.
