Can a Permanent Resident Travel Abroad for Work
If i have been a permanent resident for the past 10 years and I now wish to obtain naturalization after being in and out of the country for the 2.5 years, could I still be able to apply for naturalization? Or would I have to start all over again with my process?
Also, could I have my green taken away if I was to work outside the u.s without having a government job, but still return within the 6months requirement?
Thanks!
Re: Can a Permanent Resident Travel Abroad for Work
That all depends. Even if you come back within six months, if you are working exclusively abroad, they might interpret that as abandoning the intent to reside here. This is situational. If you have a job here that you are returning for, or your abroad work is for a US employer, you are probably in good shape. If you don't seem to have any employment to return to here and you take a job abroad, they may indeed figure you're not intending to reside here. A green card isn't just some super visa. It's for those with plans to stay here.
I'd run your exact situation past an immigration attorney before committing yourself.
