Minor Employee's Supervisor is Unprofessional and a Bully
My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: California

My 16 year old daughter is working at her first part time job that she loves. She has a positive attitude and has great rapport with the customers.

She's only been there for 4 weeks. She receives commission for photographs that she sells.

Her adult female supervisor does not talk to my daughter in a professional manner. She is condescending, overbearing, catty and despiteful. (She's in her late 20's maybe?) She talks about customers in a negative, unprofessional way (calling them fat, etc.)

I feel this supervisor is bullying my daughter and I don't know how to help her.

The job is at a very large amusement park were 90% of the employees are teenagers. So if my daughter goes to Human Resources, I want her to be prepared and not be treated like a whiny teenager.

The end result would be to be treated with respect by her supervisor and to receive CONSTRUCTIVE feedback from her supervisor without backlash.

    Thank you

It's not against the law for your daughter's boss to be a complete and utter <insert preferred term here>.

Your daughter is going to face idiot bosses. The company cannot be forced to restrict or discipline the boss.

teach that not all people are shiny happy people. There are a lot of...well, I'll just say, less that happy people out there. When it happens to be your boss, well, you either learn to deal with it or find another job.

Also teach her that not all people are like her current boss.

Thanks guys. She already knows that. I was hoping there was something constructive she could do. I guess not. The supervisor did pat her rather firmly a few times on the shoulder while talking to her. I'll just have to go in there anonymously and giver her a piece of my mind while patting her firmly on the shoulder.

Yes, that's what a reasonable, mature adult would do.

    Not.

Do not involve yourself in this.

She is old enough she needs to handle this herself

    You just do exactly that.

If you want to get your daughter fired, that is. And yes, she can be legally fired because you go in there and give the supervisor a piece of your mind. Let alone ""pat her firmly on the shoulder".

Not to mention the possbility of OP getting arrested for getting physical with the supervisor.

Concur with Lehk. Stay out of it.

Yes, it sounds like her supervisor is a jerk. She needs to get used to that, and learn to complain properly up the chain of command like every other working person. Little is more unprofessional than Mommy fighting your work battles.

There will always be bullies in the workforce, and yes - some will be supervisors. Last time I dealt with one, I simply started looking for a new job.
