Misdemeanor Charge for Failure to Appear in Court
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Utah
I'm currently attending school in a different state and don't have time to go back to the state of Utah for court on a failure to appear on a misdemeanor. To make the story short, it was bad timing when I got a traffic violation for no insurance and I had to move to a different state literally the next day for school. Now if I were to finish school (2 years) then go back to Utah to attend this matter, do court fees/fines go up over time?
Re: Misdemeanor Charge for Failure to Appear in Court
You're charged with a crime, so you should perhaps be more concerned about jail time than in the amount of your fine.
Re: Misdemeanor Charge for Failure to Appear in Court
Since you failed to appear (FTA) on a criminal charge, I would be more concerned with being arrested on a FTA warrant than any potential increase in fines or fees if I were you. Being arrested on a FTA warrant is a distinct possibility in the next two years regardless of what state you are located.
