Father Wants Rights After Years of Non-Support
My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Missouri

The bio-logical father of my now 13 year old son has never seen or paid child support since he was born we have no court orders on visitation or custody he chose to not have anything to do with my son for 13 years and is now a convicted felon and has had an exparte against him years ago. the paternity was not established until he was nearly 6 yrs old, the father now says he has rights and says he will start paying child support (mind you he has never attempted to talk to us until 2 months ago on facebook) and that he should get his visitation rights or he will sign over all his rights to the step dad and i. the step dad and i have spoken to our son and he does not want anything to do with his bio-logical father all he has asked of us is to just see what he looks like once but wants no further contact. so my question is after all this time does the bio-logical father have any actual rights regarding my son. At this point he is over $16,000 behind in child support.

By "ex parte" did you mean a restraining order?

He has the right to file for visitation.

Yeap, he has rights - he's Dad.

If he has shown interest in signing his rights to step dad, maybe you and step dad should attempt an adoption. You'd need an attorney for that. Otherwise, yes, Dad still has rights. Are you doing anything to talk to the CS office about enforcing payment of CS?
