    Assault on a Public Servant
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
My younger brother has been in trouble with the law since he was 14, and he was in and out of the juvenile system and detention centers until he was 16, almost 17. His first 3 offenses as a juvenile were possession of marijuana, and his 4th and 5th offenses as a juvenile were assault causing bodily injury and delivery of a controlled substance. 2 days after turning 17 he got an adult felony for evading arrest with a vehicle and unlicensed carrying of a weapon. He sat in county for 3 months, got out, and about a month later he got 4 years probation. He violated a few weeks later by not reporting and driving without valid license, he was only in county for 3 weeks for that one. Soon after being released he got a burglary of a building, assault on public servant, possession of marijuana, theft 1500 > 20k and another evading arrest with a vehicle. He is only 17, almost 18 and I am just curious as to what kind of time he is looking at. The asslt pub serv is a 3rd degree felony, all his other felonies are state jails I believe, and he has a couple misdemeanors.

Re: Brother with Priors on Jail for Burglary of a Building
Your brother needs a criminal defense attorney in your area. And he needs it BIG TIME.

The judge is going to go harsher on him with each offense. At 17, the charges can be bumped to adult charges, including jail time.

As he has a lot of drug offenses, he is best to get into a rehab program before court. If he keeps up his current lifestyle, he can face a lot of prison time and difficulty finding employment.

In Texas the charges are already adult since he is 17. We don't have any money so would a public defender be of any use at this point? Oh yeah right now his bond amount is set at 80,000 for the assault on public servant, and 15,000 for the other new charges.

A public defender is a lawyer.

Your brother is not going to get a meaningful assessment of his future here - we don't have the necessary information - but I expect he's going to spend a considerable amount of time behind bars.
