Hello:
I was given a citation for shoplifting (for $30 ) :o and a notice to appear in court. The officer told me that i would be fined and then placed in 1 year probation.
I am not sure what probation is? If I am on probation do I have to notify my employer?

Depending on your job no. Probation is just a list of restrictions on your life like
X amount of hours of community service ( could effect you if clashed with work hours)
commit no crime in said amount of years
Not to enter store you stole from
If your a minor then obey curfew
Depending on state and judge there could be other items but those are main ones other than fine and suspended jail time.
What should concern you is any portion of probation that "may: effect your job. If you work retail that could be problem as well. I mentioned fine but ther eis also Civil Recovery which is outside of court. Its a civil demand of monies from store you stole from. Its generally around $300.00
