Name change of Minor and New SS #
About 2 years ago my Ex and I changed my daughter's last name to his (we were never married so when I filled out papers at the hospital I put my last name on her). Anyway I have reason to believe that while she still had my last name someone stole her identity because recently (last 2 weeks) I have been receiving bills in her old name. I have called/written these companies but they all say the same thing - they can not provide me information without consent of the account holder. I even tried to order a copy of her credit report to make sure nothing was on it but all the credit bureaus keep telling me that she is a minor and won’t have a credit report. Even after I explained about the bills they repeated the above statement. Because I have no proof that someone DID IN FACT steal my kids ID I can't file a police report. No one wants to help but this could ruin my kids future financial well being (if it's true) but since her last name is changed can I apply for new social security #? If I bring the bills to SSA, will they take in to consideration someone might/could have stolen her id? How do I start the process? Any help/advice or outcomes of similar situations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Q: How do I start the process?

A: File a complaint with the cops; I'd also show the postal inspector all the stuff you have been getting.

Thanks. Like I said in my post I tried but was told without proof they can't take a report. The PO claims it's possible it was just a coincidence and doesn’t mean someone stole her identity.
