Caught Shoplifting at Walmart in California
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

I was brought in a Walmart office for shoplifting $20 of merchandise. This is my first offense of anything, no police were called in, and I just had to sign and date some papers after reading over them before a picture of myself was taken. I understand that I'll likely receive a Civil Demand and fine, so my question is what else should I expect? I'm 20 years of age, by the way.

Looks like they cut you a nice break. Pay the Civil Demand. And one paper you signed was likely a ban from all WalMart's and Sam's Clubs, so stay out of them.

I was told by asset protection that if I don't receive a civil demand letter in 30 days I should call. Though, the paper they gave me said I should do so in 14 days. When should I call if I don't receive the letter? Should I even call?

Call the store you stole from, ask for Loss Prevention.

Walmart is a massive corporation that is stingy. I believe part of their agreement with the civil demand associates is to sue....but I'm not gonna go into proprietary information.
