    Forged Consigner on Multiple Accounts
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: New York
My husband's brother asked him to consign a loan for a HUD house when he was 26. Foolishly, my husband did. We discovered that his brother used his information from that to use my husband as a cosigner on several more loans. So, my husband confronted him. To take care of this problem, his brother settled the accounts instead of paying them off over the last few years without our knowlege. This has made it even worse. This has affected both of our credit scores, since now our vehicles and camper are all in my name. What, if anything, can be done?

If you are a victim of identity fraud, you can go to the police and report the crime.

You can contact the lenders to see what it will take to get your husband removed from the loans based upon a claim of forgery and identity theft; my guess is that they're going to tell you that they need the aforementioned police report.
