My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York
Not 100% sure if this is the right place to post but I need help. To make a long story short someone I know tackled me to the ground, punched me, and tried to choke me. The thing is this wasn't a fight, this was completely unprovoked. I didn't take him seriously and ignored him when he asked if I wanted to fight, when me and my friend were about to leave his place he punched me when I wasn't facing him and started to choke me from behind. My friend pulled him off and although he didn't actually leave any marks he did choke me violently for about 15 seconds. Anyway I want to file charges because he's done this before to other people and will probably do it again. How should I handle this and what would this be classified under?
