Hello,
I'm french and i'm going to do my internship in US from the May 1st till July 31st. Then i will have 30 days to travel in US, but i'm planning to travel 30 days more in US.
How can I extend the grace period ? Could i change my status for a tourist visa ( B-1 or B-2) with the USCIS online app ?
I know that after my 30 days, i could not to go in the Mexican's border or Bahamas and come back with a tourist visa.

You will need to obtain an appropriate visa or reenter under the visa waiver program.
Are you subject to the two year HRR? If so, you cannot change your status without leaving the U.S. If not, you can petition to change your status to B2 (or B1/B2). You have not indicated that this would be business tourism - if so that raises a lot of additional questions and issues.

Well, i will get a J1 visa from the May 1st till July 31th. Then i will have 30 days of grace period but i would like to stay 1 month more to travel in US.
is it possible to leave the Us and come back 1 day after with the VWP ? Or i have to change my status ?Quote:
