Out of State Parent Wants Custody of Child Removed by Protective Services
My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Oklahoma
a week ago my stepdaughter was put into the custody of DHS, they took her out of the home because they didnt feel it was a safe environment for her to be in, My husband and I live in Florida which is where my stepdaughter lived up until 3 years ago, but a custody order was never put into place down here he is paying child support but i guess since they were not married that was not done at the same time so he could not say his ex couldnt move, the DHS case worker told my husband that his daughter would be in the states custody for awhile until this was sorted out, but we cannot just go get her and bring her back down here with us even though we are stable and would be the best fit for her, the little girl is 12 and needs a normal life this is the 3rd time she has be taken out of the home and each time given back to her mother, we have been this close to having her with us but between OK and FL they are slow in getting the paper work together, so i guess my question is what should we do retain a lawyer and if so do we need to go through FL or OK? Thanks for reading!

You would need an attorney in OK, and this isn't going to be a simple custody case. DHS has a mandate to reunite children with the parents they remove them from if at all possible.

we contacted an attorney and they told us that for 2500.00 they could represent us in court and also get a modification of custody for the child. So that is what we are going to try to do thanks for your help!
