Threatened With Being Publicly Embarrassed if I Report a Crime
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida, Illinois, or Arizona
In June 2010 I was blackmailed by a husband and wife who had sexually assaulted me multiple times in Florida. I am too late to criminally incriminate them by four months for the assault. But I know they do this (and much worse) to other girls as well. I have met two, but neither will report them. I was emailed that if I told anyone in our community of common interests what they had "supposedly" done (believe me, they did it!) they would defame my name on their very famous blog. I dont care what their friends see but i fear MY friends or employers looking me up and finding false accusations about me on an adult website. These people have my real name, they took pictures I was unaware of when i was completely undressed. How many besides the few i have seen they have i do not know. They did not specify how much they would include, but just my name alone could ruin my reputation. I am trying to find work. I cant afford to have them screw me up. But I want to warn people about them to prevent this from happening again. I have two questions. One is what state lawyer do i need to pursue? They blackmailed me from Florida. I live in IL. They now live in Arizona, so if they acted on it it would be in AZ. My second question is if they follow through, and I still have the blackmail letter, which I do have saved, can I do anything about it? Get it taken off? Do I need to do anything to specifically tell them not to put xy&z on their blog? I want to warn the women they might meet up with, and i have ways of doing that. But I do not want to doif at my own expense. Please assist.

If you want to sue them for something you claim they did to you while you were all in Arizona, then you would sue in Arizona.

Who told you this?
When (what years) did these sexual assaults occur?
How old were you at the time?

The police in the locale in Florida where the abuse happened told me... the first and worst assault was the end of October 2009. I was 23.

It wouldn't be when we were all in Arizona though... I have absolutely no intention of ever setting foot in Arizona because of them. I had a job opportunity come up but it was within about 30 minutes of where they're living. I couldn't take it knowing how likely it would be to see them on a regular basis. So it would be done by them in Arizona, but with me in a different state.
Re: Threatened With Being Publicly Embarrassed if I Report a Crime
You are free to report crimes to the jurisdiction(s) where they occurred. If you are not interested in cooperating with any prosecution that might result from your report, it's unlikely that the prosecutor will pick up the case - they can't convict without your testimony.

I would testify if it came down to needing that... I just meant that I didn't want to live thirty minutes from them and run the risk of bumping into them everyday. Big difference. No... if I knew I could prosecute I'd do it... that's not an issue. Thanks :)
