What Does the Age of Consent Mean

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Louisiana

My girlfriend is 2 years and 1 month older me. When she turns 17 I will be 19 years old but right now she's 16 and I'm 18.

I have done a bit of research but everything I read confuses me. I read a little bit on a couple of websites about the laws and I simply don't understand it. I need plain simple answers that aren't hard to understand.

My girlfriend's mom has threatened to call the cops so I backed off a lot. She found out that I slept with her daughter and it wasn't a very pretty situation for a few days. My girlfriend told me that we can be together again when she turns 17. However, I know for a fact that her mom will throw a fit over her being with me again.

So I have a handful of questions. So if somebody could help me then I would greatly appreciate the help!

What does the age of consent (17) mean?

When she turns 17 is she completely legal in most states where the age is 18?

When she turns 17 can I be arrested for being with her even though she's 17 and I'm 19 with a age difference of greater than 2 years?

Could I be charged with Carnal Knowledge when she's 17 if our relationship turns sexual again?

Could I still be charged with stuff we've done in the past when she was 16?

Will our relationship be completely legal when she's 17?

Any other information about the topic will be much appreciated!

I recommend Google and, here's a radical idea, the girl's parents.

Google the age of consent but that's just for statuary rape, until the girl is 18 the parent have the finial say. She can call the police they might do nothing or it can cause you a lot of other grief, basically you other worries then just can I sleep with the girl.

I will sum this up easily for you.

Until that girl is 18 - her parents are in charge of her life.

The day she turns 18, she can move out and be with you.

Until then - her parents can get restraining orders, and a lot of other legal hassles - including statutory rape charges.

Of course, her turning 18 does not change any criminal acts that may have already occurred.

What this means is that when you have sex with children, that child can go to the police anytime in the next decade or so and report the crime.
