Can Stores Use Credit or Debit Card Information to Track Down Thieves
I bought headsets from best buy ,then i switched them with a more expensive set. I used my debit card to pay, no employee or lp followed me in the store or out and no alarm rang. Then in the next town i went in best buy and grabbed the same set i bought and returned them, the lp guy in the yellow up front wasnt staring at me and he didnt stop me when i was leaving , my issue is with the debit card can they track me.
i was in the store for a like 30 mins in each store.

well, what info is on your debit card?

Oh, I guess your name and your bank account number would be there. I suspect they can figure out who you are from something that provided them with your actual name and the name and account number of your bank.

They can track you. And having worked a seasonal job at BB....see those cameras when you walk in? You haven't seen the ones in the LP room....

I'd quit this now because they have really good equipment, and your image will be added to the debit card info they have on you (name, address, etc)

they had more then enough time to catch if they were watching me on cam, no one came out side to get me get my plate number plus i parked in the back.
so why wait for me to get away if they saw me switching the sets, and the guy in the yellow in the front i kept watching him he never looked in my direction or made any sudden movement or called anyone. i have never been to those best buys and i live

At this point, they can have your photo posted at every LP office in the area. And possibly in employee areas.

The store also has 1-2 years (varies by state) to file criminal charges.

They typically won't wait a year (though a case could legally be started that late), but they don't need to rush through collecting their evidence against you. I'll give you a very important piece of advice. They're probably on to you. Every time you enter that store, you're helping their case. STOP STEALING THINGS. Stay out of Best Buys entirely for the time being. If anybody calls you, do not talk to them without a lawyer.

i know about the lp walking around, i work at home depot, ppl steal alot from there and our lp guys dont do anything but walk around the same aisles, normal employee have caught more ppl then them, so im not sure how best buy runs things. so i know at home depot they dont watch cameras ,half the the entire lp in out side talking to employees.
