Caught Stealing Beer
My question involves criminal law for the state of: North Carolina, Chowan County
To start this off. Hello to all that are reading this.
Now my legal bind began when I was arrested less than a week ago for stealing two 16 fluid ounce beer cans at my local dollar general. How it went was I walked into the store, Got the beers & then the manager politely asked me if I had any merchandise in my posession. So I kindly fessed up to her and gave her back the beer. Then she proceeded to call the local police force to arrest me. I was charged with shoplifting which is a class 1 misdemeanor and underage possesion of alcohol, a class 2 misdemeanor since I am currently only 16 going to be 17 in a two weeks. I'm just wondering since I have a clean record. What could be the consequence & cost of any fees I'd have to pay when I have to go to court later in the month? Am I facing Jailtime, Probabtion or community service? I just need a little insight/ advice to help me here. Thank you for reading & hopefully replying to my issue with some help.

Re: Caught Stealing Beer
At 16, you most likely will be tried as an adult. Jail is a possibility, but most likely you'll get probation, lose your license, and pay fines. You will need a lawyer. This is going to cost you/your parents a lot of money.

Re: Caught Stealing Beer
And you will likely be ordered to attend an Alcohol Education class, at your parents expense.

Re: Caught Stealing Beer
Thanks flyingron & PandorasBox. And yes I'm being trailed as an adult. And I never had a liscence of any sort anyways so I'm good there. haha And by the way... Like I previously stated, this my first time being convicted of any legal offences. So I do belive Jailtime is a possability I can rule out.

Re: Caught Stealing Beer
Jailtime might be preferable to what your parents are gonna do to you when they find out how much this is costing them.

Re: Caught Stealing Beer
Once Again. Thanks for the aid. I'm ready for whatever when I got to go to court. And by looking at what that first link Vincentlyjd posted (Thanks By the way) it says people with no prior convictions could only get a max of 40 days when you combine the max for the class 1 and class 2 misdemeanors. So while jail might not be the best idea. If that's what it has to be for me... Then so be it. Right? lol
