Malicious Wounding Charges

My question involves criminal law for the state of: va.
I pressed charges on my bf for cutting my arm right above my wrist. We had gotten in a fight and that's when it happened he was charged with malicious wounding which is.a class 3 felony. I was so shocked and so mad I didnt know what else to do. This was 3 months ago.and he just now got arrested. I want to drop the charges but the jail said that I couldn't drop them. Any advice would be appreciated in what I could do
