How to Get Shoplifting Charges Reduced or Dismissed
My question involves criminal law for the state of: WV
Hi I posted earlier and got good answers so I was hoping to get some more. Today I found out i had a warrant for my arrest so I turned myself in. I was told I was being charged with first offense shoplifting misdemeanor. And the amount was 23.98. They said id get a court date in the mail in about 6 weeks. They told me upon conviction the fine was 250 max and no jail time. And since it wasn't jail-able i am not eligible for a public defender. My question is: what can I say to get the charge reduced. I talked to my employer and was told i may be able to go back to work depending on whether or not i am found guilty and what the charge i am found guilty for is. I know y'all aren't psychic but what would be the best thing to do here? I am not worried about fines or whatever my major concern is my job. TIA.

You plead Not Guilty. However, the tapes you mentioned before do not show you putting the items back, so again - that will work against you. You really need to hire a Criminal Defense Attorney, you can't afford NOT to.
As for your job...I'd be looking for a new one.
