Why does mom feel the need to lock you out when she goes to work? What have you done in the past? What hours does mom lock you out? Are you going to school?

Additionally, at 14, you would need a work permit from your school in order to work. There are very strict laws saying how many hours a minor can work, and what kind of work. You also have to make good grades at the same time.

Do the math: $8.00 per hour is Massachusetts Minimum Wage. Times that by 18 hours MAXIMUM per week. Your pre-tax income for a month is $576. Uncle Sam takes out approximately 28% of that (I round it to 30%). That leaves you with $405 after taxes....

Rent...expect $600+. And then utilities (heat, water, electricity, trash, sewage) which is atleast another $100 per month....

Add to it: Transportation; medical insurance; any prescriptions you may need. Things like dental floss, toothpaste, toilet paper, deodorant, soap, laundry detergent. (coin laundry can easily be $10-20 a week for a single person).

(See where you already have a problem?)
