How Do You Verify Compliance With a Fix-It Ticket
My question involves a traffic citation from the state of: California

A friend of mine got a fix-it ticket in Los Angeles. He may have signed it off himself with an officer's star no. Now he is worried. How are officer's signatures verified across different departments/counties etc.? And should this be a concern? It sounds like he was very frustrated that he received the ticket and recognizes that if he did do this, it was not right, but is curious to know what to expect and what should be done.

Any help is very much appreciated.

He could face a much more serious criminal offense if he attempts to submit the corrected citation with a forged signature. The court has access to the names and identification numbers of officers and employees, and unless your friend got real lucky to match the two ... oops!

At this point it appears your friend should lose his copy of the citation and contact the court to pay his ticket.

Those are not the questions you or your $+V916 friend should be asking. But here is the answer anyways: Your "friend" needs to go to court, get a copy of the citation and use that as as way to obtain the correction, properly.

Besides, there are a few Law Enforcement Agencies in Los Angeles who do not sign the back of the citation. I won't specify which ones do what... Some of them are known for issuing a printed "certificate". So even if you can match the numbers, some officers will not sign them off and instead, ask you to check with the desk officer at the station.
