Newly Married Want to Change My Daughter's Last Name to Married Name
My question involves adoption law for the State of: I have a 4 year old daughter whom was born out of wedlock, since she was born i have no knowledge of the fathers whereabouts and my daughter has my last name. I have been married for one year now with my new husband whom wants to adopt my 4 year old and wants his last name to be hers as well. What can i do or where do i start. i dont want the father to be contacted because i feel he might refuse.

You don't indicate your state, but in most states you have to notify the father so he at least has the opportunity to contest the change.
We can give you a better answer if you would play by the rules and tell us where you are.

Texas. What would be my first step? contacting the father? And is it possible to not contact him my self but by a court or something?
Re: Newly Married Want to Change My Daughters Last Name to Married Name
You don't have to talk to him, you just have to mail him a notice which can be done via impersonal means such as a process server or certified mail.
Expect that he may show up in court to protest.
Info here is pretty good.
