Step-Parent Adoption, Absent Parent Returns
My husband of five years recently petitioned the court here in Michigan to terminate my ex-husbands rights and adopt my three children.I might add he is a wonderful involved father. My ex who is not a wonderful involved father and never was hasn't had any contact whatsoever with the children in more than 2 years is a registered sex offender(not against a child) and has only paid child support regularly the last 4 months because of payroll deduction. That's the first time in five years. He was served with termination papers which clearly stated he had 21 days to respond and he didn't.Now a week before the hearing he gets the hearing date changed and intends to fight.I'm a little worried that this last ditch effort on his part will spoil our plans to become a permanent family. My attorney says it will come down to the "best interests of the children" and if thats the case we should win hands down, but I cant help worrying.Any advice?

It doesn't sound like your ex- is in a good position to fight against the involuntary termination, due to his abandonment of the children.
