Landlord Charging Us for Change of Flooring Type
My question involves landlord-tenant law in the state of Texas.
Besides "damages" done to property, our landlord is charging us to change the flooring from hardwood floor to carpet.
The hardwood floor was not treated before we moved in, and despite our best efforts to polish, there is wear. However, why should I have to pay them to put in carpet when that's not even the floor type we had?
Re: Landlord Charging Us for Change of Flooring Type
You can start by contending that the alleged damage is ordinary wear and tear; we're not in a position to assess that.
Assuming there is damage for which you are responsible, though, you have to consider whether it will be cheaper for you to pay for the repair and your depreciated share of any refinishing, or to pay for the carpet.
