Is it Legal to Marry an Illegal Immigrant
I have an unusual situation...I am an American citizen who is in a relationship with a Mexican man that is an illegal resident of Quebec, Canada. He entered Canada legally through the refugee act but when his time was up he wasn't accepted for permanent legal residency. Rather than leave Canada in the allotted amount of time, he chose to stay in Canada and take his chances in hopes to continue to live a better life.
I currently live in the United States and we have a long distance relationship. Is it possible for me to marry him in Canada? (Or would he have to turn his self in to be deported to Mexico and get married there) If we could be married in Canada, would he be able to come here to the U.S. to be with me, legally? If so, what would the process involve?
Another thing, I have read that if an illegal immigrant is caught by immigration or turns themselves in, they are deported to their country of origin or to another country that will accept them. How does this work? How can they petition to be accepted to another country?
Re: Can an American Citizen Marry an Illegal Canadian Resident in Canada
On the surface, it appears his best option would be to sneak back to Mexico, then petition for a fiance visa to the US.

This is a U.S. site. You need to post your question to a Canadian legal board or ask a Canadian lawyer.
