How Will a Shoplifting Misdemeanor Affect My Job Career
My question involves criminal records for the state of: New Jersey
About 10 years ago i was charged with shoplifting(misdemeanor).Today i would like to apply for a police officer job.I'm curentlly a criminal justice student and what happend 10 yers ago was a huge mistake.My questions are: how this can affect my future?and, I'm I going to be able to get a job as a police officer? or do i have to expunge this first? This question gets asked what... every couple of days, "I have a crime on my background and want to become a police officer." The answer is always the same.
When you choose to commit a crime, you put yourself at a disadvantage as compared to applicants who don't have criminal records. It's up to an individual police department to decide whether or not to hire you despite your record, but it's something that can be counted against you when you're being compared to similarly credentialed applicants.
