Michigan MIP First Offender
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
I am a student at UM in ann arbor. The other night I was given an MIP and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. I don't remember any of this happening but I was told I was stumbling near the road and that is the cop stopped me. I am really worried that I may need a lawyer even though this is my first time offense because I was taken to the hospital. My BAC was never taken and at the hospital they just had me sleep (didn't give me an IV or test my BAC). I only remember drinking two drinks and I don't know whether I should tell this to the judge or just apologize and say it will never happen again. What do you think? Thanks.

I think you should quit drinking until you are old enough and then, drink responsibly. Then, yes, hire a lawyer if you can afford one. There are often diversion programs available that will prevent something like this from following you for the rest of your life. A lawyer will be aware of the programs available and the easiest way to get you into one, if applicable.
Not that you can't do it by yourself. The court often guides people through programs without even asking but without the assistance of a lawyer, if the court doesn't offer some program that is available, you would just lose out.
