Arrested when Drunk Dc/Resisting- Help Please Need to Resolve Case Asap
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Wisconsin Hello, I just recently was charged with disorder conduct and resisting arrest (misdemeanors). The charges were the unfortunate result of breaking my sobriety after over 6 years. I had a small drinking-related criminal history from 1999 in college.. Since then, I have been working hard and just finished a master's a few months ago. I qualify for a PD but really need to get the case resolved as soon as possible as I am set to go overseas for job in the next week. Any advice? Is there any way I can hurry this case along as I am an out-of-state- resident just visiting and will admit I made a huge mistake by drinking. No one was injured and the arresting officers were not "out to get me," just trying to get me home to a safe place (WI). Any chance I can talk to the DA before the intial appearance to try to resolve the case? I am willing to make a plea agreement but really can't afford to lose my job overseas after having just completed an unpaid internship. Everything was going well but one night of mistakes can really affect my future I am afraid. Any help would be appreciated!
Good luck to all!

Yep.
Either delay your exit or plan on having a lot of problems to deal with if and when you come back. There is no way you are going to resolve this in a week or two.

You can try.
You need to realize that even if you are not incarcerated, if you plead guilty or nolo contendre (the only way it would be resolved within a month or more), there is the penalty phase to deal with. Running out on that would end up with problems.

I understand the legal system is not quickly moving but I am hoping that I can talk with the DA to reach an agreement which typically includes a sentencing recommendation that the judge usually accepts. I guess I am asking is it a good idea to try to plead guilty/reach a plea at an initial appearance to try to speed the process along even if this means there would reduce the chances of the chraged being reduced. Any thoughts? Thank you for your reply jk.

Ultimately I see no way to resolve the issue within a couple weeks, and that isn't including the penalty phase. Even if you do reach a plea agreement, it still has to come before the court. Unless your court has a lot of free docket time, a week or two is unlikely.
Your best chance of getting it resolved the quickest would be to hire a lawyer who "knows the ropes" and can possibly push to expedite your case. It still isn't going to happen before the end of next week (again, that isn't considering the penalty phase.)
